I used to have super short hair. It was a "big chop" of sorts, except my hair wasn't chemically treated. It was in a mohawk. The growing out process was extremely awkward, so instead, I just chopped it off and wore it short. I do believe May 2010 is the last time I cut my hair. So, this month is pretty much my two year anniversary of letting my hair grow back.
Now, don't get me wrong... I certainly don't regret the decision to let it grow back. However, I am extremely tired of my hair today. With all the YouTube Videos about cute fun styles (some that take hours to complete) that protect your hair, I am sure some of you readers are wondering.... "How can you be tired of your hair?" Well, I am. Lol. It's MY hair. I am the one who takes care of it. And the longer it gets, the more tedious that becomes.
This isn't a permanent condition. Tomorrow, I will probably love my hair once more. Or atleast not mind it. But I wanted to let it be known. To all my friends out there who have decided to embrace their naturally curly or wavy or kinky hair... Kudos.
To all those same people who are concerned right this very minute, about the lack of love they feel for their hair... Don't be concerned. I wrote this post for you. I wanted to let you know that it's ok to get tired of your hair sometimes. We all do.
Suddenly going natural did not mean you were sprinkled with fairy dust to make hair maintenance a breeze. Hair requires work no matter what the texture. Or maybe you are just out of ideas for styling. No matter what the cause of your frustration is, its ok. And it's normal. Thats what they make hats and scarves for. It doesn't mean you don't love your hair, or that embracing your curls was a bad idea. Today, you just don't care.
Tomorrow's another day.
