Product Non-Junkie

I have this bin. It's not an abnormal bin. Many women have it, I'm sure. It holds lotion bottles, body washes, face washes, body sprays, body butters, facial toners, face masks, and all sorts of beautifying products. The thing is.... it holds ALOT of these types of products. I had five different bottles of body lotion.

I have a problem. It's a common problem.. I am a Product Junkie.

You too? Oh, I'm so glad its not just me...

You gotta wonder. How does someone end up in this position? It all starts with puberty. We spend time watching our mothers, older sisters, aunts, and other womenfolk, primp and press with beautifully colored bottles, sprays, and jars that leave them looking flawless. Or maybe you blossomed into your femininity after a childhood of brothers, uncles, and fathers who didn't know a rat-tail comb from a barrette. Either way, Little-Miss-You walked into a store and wandered down the beauty aisle. Or into the beauty store.

Oranges. Blues. Pinks. Purples. Deep Condition. For Sensitive Skin. Hypoallergenic. Organic. Sleek and Shiny. Full and Bouncy. Fragrance Free. Frizz Control. With Shea Butter. With Olive Oil. Penetrating Moisture Beads. All-Day Protection. Natural Glow... A flurry of well-packaged, and poetically penned beauty products stood on either side of you, shelved in family units. They sounded exciting. They promised to be better than the last one. They all wanted to be the Head Honcho in your beauty drawer/bin/shelf.

So, you buy them. You buy this one for winter time, this one for summer, this one because it's eco-friendly, that one because it has hibiscus-oil in it, that one over there because it comes with a free travel-sized bottle. Before you know it, you have an arsenal of products for your body, the bulk of which, you more than likely will never use more than once. You probably have two or three products that you use regularly, but you can't help yourself. The products sound so cool!

Now, unless you are a blogger or vlogger, who regularly does reviews of these products, you've got to admit that this is a little ridiculous.

I for one, am taking a stand. I know we live in a society driven by consumerism and consumption. But do you really need four different types of body butter? Or eight different types of perfume? I don't. Atleast, not all at the same time. It's true that I get that buying itch like any other Junkie. But it's time for an end.

I am going to become a Non-Junkie. I intend to use up the products I have, that I love. I will not buy new ones, until the old ones are used up. And I will try a little regularity. Sure it's OK to branch out every now and then. However, when I find a product I really like, I intend to stick with it.

I imagine my wallet, and my bin will be much happier.

Do you think you can hop off the Product Junkie bandwagon?

And what will you do with all that extra (probably unopened) product in your bin/drawer?

Maybe you can make a gift basket for a friend. Or maybe you could consider a product-swap site, like Lola's Green Hair
